What is AC evaporator coil cleaning?

AC coil cleaning removes the dust, dirt and debris that build up on the evaporator coil, which sits in the plenum above the furnace and has air moving across it all year. A clean coil restores airflow, improves efficiency and helps prevent coil freezing and moisture problems.

What a dirty coil can cause

  • Restricted airflow and lower system efficiency
  • Extra strain on your HVAC equipment
  • Coil freezing in more severe cases
  • Poor ventilation and higher energy use
  • Moisture-related issues such as microbial growth

Why the coil gets dirty

The evaporator coil usually sits in the plenum above the furnace. It's exposed to airflow year-round, even when the air conditioning isn't running, so contaminants keep building up on its surface.

Restore airflow and efficiency

Routine coil cleaning restores proper airflow, improves system efficiency and supports overall indoor air quality.

Best done with your duct cleaning

For the best results, we recommend cleaning the AC coil at the same time as your furnace and air duct cleaning. The whole system is addressed at once, which helps prevent future buildup and keeps everything performing.

We'll tell you if you need it

Our technicians assess your system during the cleaning and let you know if coil cleaning is recommended, based on visible buildup or airflow restrictions.

AC Evaporator Coil Cleaning questions

In most homes it sits in the plenum directly above the furnace. Air passes across it all year, even when the air conditioner is off.

Buildup restricts airflow, lowers efficiency and puts strain on your equipment. In more severe cases it can cause coil freezing, poor ventilation, higher energy use and moisture problems like microbial growth.

We recommend it. Cleaning the coil along with the furnace and ducts addresses the whole system at once and helps prevent future buildup.

Our technicians check the coil while cleaning your system and will tell you if it's recommended, based on visible buildup or airflow restriction.
